Dancong Fire Collection (Roasted)

One River Tea

Regular price $45.00 Sale

Welcome to the 2021 Dancong Fire Collection!  This is perhaps our most anticipated sample set of the year: six new charcoal roasted and rested dancong oolong teas!

We had to be very patient with our producers on this one, trusting that they know the best time to roast, and rest these teas, but we have been waiting for these teas since their harvest in spring!  We have sampled dozens of different cultivars in the past few weeks from our 5 different producers, and finally decided on these six teas .  They vary in roast and flavors, elevation and age of bushes.  Thus, this sample set should be a well-rounded look into some of the lesser-known Dancong Oolong cultivars.

In the set:

  • 14g Brothers (light roast)
  • 14g Ginger Lily Fragrance (light roast)
  • 14g Gardenia Fragrance (medium roast)
  • 14g Almond Fragrance (medium roast)
  • 14g Osmanthus Fragrance (medium roast)
  • 14g Hidden Cave (heavy roast)

We hope that through this box, we can share a little bit about how charcoal roasting changes dancong oolong teas, and the degree which distinguishes light, medium, and heavy roasted dancong oolong teas.  Be sure to hold onto some samples and see how the flavors mellow and meld after a month or two more of resting!

For those that didn’t get to try our Flower Collection (unroasted Dancong Oolongs), check out that box to see how dancong oolongs taste before being charcoal roasted!  We hope that these collections can help you expand your Dancong oolong tasting palate, furthering your understanding of the flavors possible, and the styles of Dancong oolongs you prefer.

The tea is packaged in 14g heat-sealed bags.  Recommended brewing is 6-7 grams of tea in a 3-4 ounce gaiwan; thus, this sample set offers two chances to taste each tea and compare with the others.

We are very excited to share this tea tasting opportunity, as it is one of the few ways to really understand the complexities of certain types of teas.
