This is a first-pick Spring tea from Shuangchong Village, on the edge of the core growing region. While this high mountain hamlet is more associated with the Yao minority and the smokier teas that they produce, this is a strangely fruity treat. Thoroughly baked over smokeless charcoal, this tea does not have any of the sharp greenness you would expect from a relatively young Liubao tea. The heavy roast allows for some initial aromas of almost raspberry jam chocolate that develop into toasty, nutty flavors. Occasionally, a heavily roasted vegetal note closest to Lu'an Guapian can also be perceptible.

This is a tea intended to be had with mild Cantonese dim sum. You could likewise brew this tea in a large teapot and enjoy it with an extended meal, but you should still rinse it at least once prior to drinking. It can also be enjoyed gongfu style, but expect a more limited range of flavors between infusions. Look to this Liubao for comfy sipping.

For an independent take on this tea, see PathLessTaken's blog review here.
