Welcome to the 2020 Dancong Producer's Pick. The teas are in, the roasts have mellowed, and this year's Spring teas are in their prime drinking condition. As always, we have asked our three main Dancong producers (Lin, Huiwei, and Wei) to select a few teas from this year that they are particularly pleased with so that we might share them with the West.
As Dancong tea is home to 200+ varietals, many of these teas are relatively unknown in the West, so this box serves as an interesting insight into the wild world of Phoenix Mountain Dancong Oolong teas.
In this box, you will find heavy-roast teas, medium-roasted teas, and very lightly baked teas. While the teas come from different elevations and growing conditions, they are all Dancong Oolongs. This box is a great example of how different producers from the same region, growing the same style of tea can create such different results.
In the set:
14g Lin's Chao Dancong (Fried Dancong)
14g Huiwei's Yashi Xiang (Duck Shit Fragrance)
14g Huiwei's Tuofuhou (Roasted Dancong)
14g Wei's Dongfang Hong (The East is Red)
14g Wei's Xingren Xiang (Apricot Fragrance)
14g Wei's Guihua Xiang (Osmanthus Fragrance)
All the teas were made and curated in the Spring of 2020, and we have personally visited every farm, and have written small introductions to each of the farms for the curious customer.
The tea is packaged in 14g heat-sealed bags. Recommended brewing is 6-7 grams of tea in a 3-4 ounce gaiwan; thus, this sample set offers two chances to taste each tea and compare with the others.
We are very excited to share this tea tasting opportunity, as it is one of the few ways to really understand the complexities of certain types of teas.
*Note: We have also stocked 2020 versions of all the favorite Dancongs present in the 2019 Dancong Producer's Pick, so visit the oolong page to browse fond memories.
