Xiongdi is a lesser known varietal of dancong tea praised for its flower fragrance and yunwei (which is difficult to translate, but usually refers to the rich mineral taste of a tea). This tea has been cultivated and expertly roasted by our friends at the Huiwei tea room. The tea has been roasted three times over charcoal, but this roast is lighter than many we have had and thus the tea still has a distinctly warm and toasty taste. The aroma on the leaves is thick and sweet with some of the green leaf fragrance noticeable under the roast. The liquor is golden and refreshingly smooth, due to the impressive processing there is a nice kougan (mouthfeel) without some of the early bitterness found in the heavier roasted teas. This is a great tea for those that don’t like too heavily roasted teas, but want something warm with body for rainy or cold winter sessions.
