During our past visits to Jingdezhen, we found a vibrant and adventurous artistic culture. Artisans from all over China migrating to this Mecca of Chinese porcelain production. Collected here is a modest assortment of modern pieces created by small artisans. We have visited their studios, seen their processes, and trust their production methods. Since handmade porcelain is so highly valued in China (especially after the advent of low-quality cheap machine production standards) the price on these cups do not compare with their machine-made relatives.
All these teacups were made of fine Jingdezhen porcelain, wheel -thrown and shaved translucent thin. After a quick glazing, they were fixed in a wood-fired kiln to allow the ash and small heat fluctuations chemically react to the glaze to create a unique color patterning and a cup that will stain and craze with use and age.
