Tea: Laocong Shuixian (Old Bush Shuixian)
Type: Wuyi Yancha (Rock Ooong)
Harvest: Spring 2009
Region: Wuyi, Fujian
Producer: Yanzi Keng
This old bush aged Shuixian is exactly the tea we were hoping to find during our time in Wuyishan. Something incredible happens when a well roasted old bush rock tea is left to age. All the roast turns into something incredibly sweet and deep, the aroma right off the dry leaves is like walking into the basement of an antique store full of books. The steeped leaves give us our first lesson in yanyun, this unmistakable fragrance and taste that can only be found in a handful of wuyi rock oolong teas we have tasted. The brew is a relaxed pale amber and finds its stride very quickly. While not incredibly long lasting, the six or so infusions it delivers are thick in the mouth, full on the tongue and soothing to the stomach.
