Back due to popular demand, the 2022 Wuyi Rock Oolong sampler continues our exploration of a few basic styles of Roasted Wuyi Rock Teas!
For this box, we focused on touch-stone teas, meaning these teas are all great basic representatives of their distinct style. While none of these teas are Zhengyan or old bush, they are all very well crafted and expertly roasted. After many years living in China and over a decade drinking yancha, we have I distaste for anything sour or overly bitter, thus, all the teas included in this sampler are extremely pleasant to drink (brewed hot or cold) while also offering their unique style to the mix.
These teas come from two producers in the Wuyi Mountain region, Master Fang and Master Wu. Both are younger producers from generational farms, and both most many awards in the local rock tea competitions. We met them both in spring of 2021, though since we arrived too early, we were unable to see their production first hand.
The sampler contains four different rock oolongs, each packed in 14 gram satchels, offering a total of 56 grams of wonderful and well-roasted Rock Oolongs.
In the set:
The tea is packaged in 14g heat-sealed bags. Recommended brewing is 6-7 grams of tea in a 3-4 ounce gaiwan; thus, this sample set offers two chances to taste each tea and compare with the others.
We are very excited to share this tea tasting opportunity, as it is one of the few ways to really understand the complexities of certain types of teas. For more detailed tasting notes of each of these teas, check out their individual listings here!
