Tea: Brown River 2024 Type: Non-Dabai White Tea Harvest: Late April 2024 Region: Hefeng, Enshi, Hubei Producers: Loushui Cooperative
Tasting notes: Sugarcane, Mineral, Peach, Bark.
One late April morning, we went to collect a batch of leaves to make the local style Shaigan green tea. What we got from other households were heirloom cultivar leaves at a range of sizes too large to make our intended tea. We then decided to process the tea as if it were shoumei, using the trays and racks usually reserved for red tea production. After almost two weeks of slow browning, we arrived at the following tea.
With its heavy silver down, the local heirloom cultivar is well suited to be made as a white tea. Compared with Fuding brown shoumei, this tea is somewhat milder, yet still pleasantly sweet. It is a light tea that is good for a late night session, or as a substitute for a sugary drink at work. As a brown shoumei, this cake is now already approaching the peak of its sweetness and aroma, both of which should be enjoyed within the next two years.
I'd do a 4.5 if I could, but this'll do :) very very pleasant non dabai white tea, a welcome departure from all of the fuding I've been drinking this past year. That mineral flavor is to die for! So delicious, thank y'all for this treat <3

On the subtle side, and has some black tea elements in both the aroma and taste. Interestingly, bitterness does come through a bit when over steeped, not unlike a black tea. Definitely a fun one.

Apricot and bark
The aroma of the tea Reminds me of climbing the old apricot tree as a kid. The tea has a very prominent apricot and old books/ tree bark taste that I love, would recommend.
Did not know what to expect, but the chocolatey, earthy, roasty taste is exceptional. Very mellow, smooth, and relaxing-feeling. A wonderful first dive into yellow tea for me.
This is absolutely one of my favorites. I’m about to order another batch so that I never run out. I’m very impressed with the depth of the flavor notes and the gentle hug from smokiness of it.
