Tea: Orthodox Zhangping Shuixian
Type: Oolong Tea
Harvest: May 2025
Region: Fujian Province, Zhangping City, Nanyang Township
Producer: Lin Family
Tasting Notes: Osmanthus, Apricot, Cream, Brown Sugar.
This tea is made by a veteran, award-winning producer with 40 years of experience who lives in Nanyang Township proper. Although somewhat rougher in shape, this tea has a fuller osmanthus body and strong aroma. It is the ideal Shuixian for an established local drinker and was the highest-reviewed tea in our July sampler set. This tea begins a generously thick, fresh, and sometimes sharp Oolong similar to a Taiwan high mountain Oolong or Tieguanyin. Over multiple infusions, the greener edges fade into a sweeter body, while that same consistent florality stays strong throughout the entire session.
Locals in Zhangping would enjoy one 8 gram pillow of this tea gongfu style in a smaller 120ml gaiwan, while people in Northeastern China may prefer to enjoy this tea as a slower one-shot infusion in a much larger 300-600ml tea pot. You can enjoy it either way.
Being an aroma-forward tea, we recommend you try it gongfu style at least once. Be sure to smell the packing papers, the lid, and the water itself for the fullest experience.
