Here you will find the tastes, shape, and colors that people now most associate with Dianhong. The Feng #7 Cultivar produces uniquely large fuzzy buds which can be worked to produce this beautiful golden orange color and a variety of different shapes. Here you will find the natural, unstraightened shape that forms after kneading, oxidizing, and drying, but it is often also rolled into spirals, balls or needle-like shapes. This particular Dianhong, made by the Yang family in the heart of Fengqing, gives you everything that one could want from this kind of tea: thickness on the tongue without too much drying in the throat, sweet but not sugary, malty and yammy without any foul or sour notes.
Unlike with our Shaihongs, it will not change much in the next year or so with age, nor is it as complex or nuanced as China Red Dianhong or some of our other red teas. This is a straightforward red tea that is ready for your favorite mug or tea pot. A sweet, mellow, woody red tea that pairs well with dessert and made to be a natural crowd-pleaser.
